Best Time to Visit Bocas del Toro

Bocas is Caribbean, not Pacific: its weather doesn't follow the same rules as the rest of Panama, and a shower can roll through any month. Even so, there are clearly better windows depending on what you're after. Here's the truth, no marketing.

Temperatures stay around 27°C (80°F) year-round, with little variation. What changes is the rain and the state of the sea.

Driest, sunniest months

January to March is the main dry season: statistically the driest, sunniest months and the best for surf. September and October are a "mini dry season" with very calm seas and incredible underwater visibility.

Rainiest months

July is usually the wettest, with on-and-off rain. October to December also see more rain, though often at night. None of this ruins a trip —the sun comes back fast— but it's worth knowing.

High and low season

High: November to April, peaking at Christmas and Easter. Low: May to October, with a bump in July–August for summer holidays. For better prices and empty beaches, aim for low season.
